07/19/2010 Brazilian retail sales up 10.2% in May
According to official statistics agency IBGE, Brazilian retail sales had in May a 10.2% rise year-on-year, leading year-to-date sales to 11.5%. The figure reflected the improvement of the country’s economy, with higher credit volume, rising consumer confidence, lower interest rates, increasing income and the World Cup, who boosted sales in some categories, specially electronics. Best performing segments were Computing and Communications (+28.7% year-on-year), Building Materials (+19.9%) and Furniture and Electronics (+19.5%).
