07/19/2010 Pão de Açúcar increases sales by 39.4% in Q2
Pão de Açúcar, Brazil’s top retailer, reported its net sales went up 39.4% in Q2 over the same period last year, to R$ 6.977 billion (US$ 3.876 billion). Excluding Ponto Frio’s stores, purchased last year, expansion slowed down to 12.7%. Same-store gross sales excluding Ponto Frio rose 9.9% , with 7.9% expansion in food and 16.2% in non-food, specially due to strong sales of electronics, driven by the World Cup. Online sales rose 45.4% in the quarter. Year-to-date consolidated sales soared 42.7% over the first six months last year, to R$ 15.6 billion (US$ 8.67 billion).
